How to wash a blanket in the machine (and when you need a big drum)

The blanket is one of the things we all put off washing — and usually the reason is one: it doesn't fit in the washing machine at home. which program and how many grades wants every type of blanket and because the big bucket make all the difference

Check the label first

Before anything else, find the care label. The material of the blanket completely changes the way you wash it — and a wrong temperature can ruin it. Below are the most common ingredients.

Cotton or synthetic blanket

They are the most "easy"; they are washed normally in the 30–40°C in a cotton or synthetic program and dry without problem in low/moderate temperature. Use a normal amount of detergent and do not overfill the drum.

Fleece blanket

Fleece wants low temperature (30°C) and gentle program. Avoid too much heat when drying, because the fibers deteriorate. It is also good to avoid the softener, which "closes" the fibers and reduces softness.

Wool blanket (beware!)

Wool is the most sensitive. It needs cold water or 30°Cspecific wool program and mild detergent. Most importantly: avoid high temperature in drying, because the wool blanket can pick up. Prefer drying in the air or at a very low temperature.

Step by step: how to wash the blanket

1. Read the labelCheck maximum temperature, if a dryer is allowed and any special program (e.g. woolen).
2. Shake & checkShake off the dust and check for stains or tears before putting it in the bin.
3. Choose a large bucketThe blanket should fit comfortably and move. Don't fill the bucket all the way up.
4. Program per materialCotton/synthetic: 30–40°C. Fleece: 30°C, mild. Wool: cold/30°C, wool programme; some detergent.
5. Dry properlyLow temperature in the dryer (or in the air for woollens) until it is completely dry, so that it does not smell.

Mold-free drying

A wet blanket stored in a hurry is a recipe for smell and mold. Make sure it's dry Completely before folding. In the dryer, the low temperature with a few drying balls helps keep it fluffy and even.
